SpraySeal SF5387 - Spray Application

The proper installation / application of SF5387 SpraySeal using the Sulzer MixCoat Spray tool. Demonstrates ideal surface preparation, tool setup and priming, proper application, and clean up.

A two-component polyurea sprayable sealant which is used for corrosion prevention in aircraft during installations, maintenance, and repairs.

Av-DEC SpraySeal SF5387 is the newest member of the Av-DEC sprayable sealant family. It is the product of years of research into developing a special corrosion-prevention sealant with high resistance to hydrocarbon-based fuels and oils. This makes it the perfect sprayable sealant for use as a secondary fuel barrier on fuel tank exterior surfaces and other structures susceptible to hydrocarbon degradation. SF5387 is an excellent sealant for installation, repair, and maintenance tasks. When applied, it forms an exceptionally tough and durable polyurea film which protects aircraft structures.

This two-component polyurea sealant integrates a low-viscosity property which makes application possible using spraying equipment. OEMs, repair teams, and maintainers stand to gain the following benefits with every application:

  • Quick application times which speed up the installation, maintenance, and repair process
  • A self-leveling sprayable sealant which leaves behind a smooth, durable coating when applied
  • Quick cure times that enable real-time application and reduce aircraft downtime
  • A sprayable sealant with low viscosity which allows for quick application on large, complex surfaces and structures
  • High-resistance to hydrocarbon-based fuels, giving OEMs and maintenance crews more versatility in terms of application

The Science Behind the SpraySeal SF5387

For SF5387, the goal was to develop a sprayable sealant that creates a watertight seal and exhibits enhanced resistance to hydrocarbon fuels used in aircraft. SF5387 is a two-component polyurea sprayable sealant with a low viscosity. The benefits of this carefully crafted sealant include the following:

  • Creates durable seals which serve as secondary fuel barriers on aircraft structures
  • A transparent coating or film which allows for external inspection activities without the need to disassemble aircraft surfaces
  • A sealant with low viscosity which can be applied with a Sulzer MixCoat Spray tool or Sulzer Mixcoat Flex spray system or brushed onto surfaces making it possible to prevent corrosion in hard-to-reach areas

Prevents Corrosion and Moisture Ingress in Diverse Aircraft Areas

SpraySeal is an excellent choice for preventing corrosion in hard-to-reach areas and large aircraft surfaces. This is due to the science behind SF5387 and its sprayable nature. SpraySeal was designed for application in the following aircraft areas:

  • Large contiguous surfaces
  • Cargo bay areas
  • Floorboards
  • Exterior surface of center wing fuel tank
  • Engine fan cowl doors
