ThixoShield Leading Edge Sealant
ThixoShield TW1102 is a two component polyurethane material developed by Av DEC for use as a durable erosion resistant coating and sealant on aircraft leading edge components. Engineered to withstand harsh operational environments, ThixoShield provides a UV resistant protective barrier that adheres reliably to common aircraft surfaces, including painted and primed substrates. Its white finish is designed to maintain color stability without yellowing under UV exposure.
Designed with application versatility in mind, ThixoShield features a carefully controlled viscosity that allows it to be applied on both vertical and horizontal surfaces while producing a smooth uniform finish free of brush marks. The material can be brushed on and is self leveling, making it especially useful in areas where traditional erosion tapes are difficult or impossible to install, such as rounded or complex geometries.
ThixoShield was developed in response to real world erosion challenges encountered on aircraft components exposed to airflow and environmental wear. It is intended for use as a fast curing leading edge sealant or faying surface sealant, helping protect components from erosion while maintaining strong adhesion to surrounding coatings.
Documented and evaluated application areas include:
ThixoShield TW1102 forms a UV resistant barrier with high adhesion to painted surfaces and coatings. Its mechanical properties support durability in erosion prone areas, and testing has been performed to evaluate peel strength, erosion resistance, and fluid exposure performance, including ASTM G76 erosion testing and RTCA DO 160G fluid resistance standards.
The system working life is under 10 minutes at room temperature, supporting efficient application during maintenance operations. Once applied, the material cures to provide a protective surface designed for long term exposure to demanding aircraft environments.
ThixoShield TW1102 is supplied in standard 50cc and 200cc cartridges, compatible with common dispensing equipment. Application can be performed using a dispenser and brush, allowing precise placement and controlled coverage of targeted erosion prone areas.
